Is Manganato safe? It’s a free, ad-supported site that mostly hosts unlicensed manga scans, and readers report aggressive pop-ups and redirects, including to adult sites, even with ad blockers on. Those ads are the main risk. The site has also changed names and domains, so it’s easy to land on the wrong address. We don’t recommend it, but if you use it, the safety steps below cut the risk.

Key facts

  • Manganato is part of a network of free manga sites that also includes Mangakakalot and Manganelo.
  • Since a domain change in November 2024, much of the network has moved to the Natomanga name, with mirrors such as mangakakalot.gg and nelomanga.com.
  • Readers on Reddit report pop-ups, redirects to adult sites and persistent redirects, even with ad blockers.
  • Most of the content is unlicensed. TorrentFreak reported in 2022 that Shueisha and VIZ Media were targeting Manganato.
  • We found no official Manganato app. Legal options include MANGA Plus, Shonen Jump, K MANGA and your library’s Hoopla or Libby.

What Is Manganato?

Manganato is a free website for reading manga, manhwa and manhua online. It has been one of the most searched manga sites in the US, with about 49,400 searches a month for the name alone. It hosts scanned chapters of popular series, usually without the publishers’ permission, and it pays for itself with ads. It shares its catalog and layout with sister sites, so you’ll often see the same chapters on Mangakakalot and Manganelo.

Why Does Manganato Say Natomanga?

If you’ve noticed the address changing, you’re not imagining it. A security scanner’s summary of public reports says Natomanga is the rebrand of the Manganato network, with a domain created in November 2024, and that the network also runs under mangakakalot.gg and nelomanga.com. Users have also reported being redirected to a “www3” version of the site.

We can’t say why the names and addresses changed. Sites in this space often move domains, and each move creates room for copycats. Treat any address you didn’t get from a source you trust as a possible clone.

Is Manganato Safe to Use?

Here’s what the evidence shows, and what it doesn’t:

  • Pop-ups and redirects. A scanner that summarizes Reddit reports from r/mangapiracy lists complaints about pop-ups to adult sites and persistent redirects, including with uBlock Origin and other blockers.
  • Filter-list updates. The same summary says AdGuard updated its filters to deal with new pop-ups and redirects after the rebrand.
  • No proof of a virus. We found no confirmed report of the site itself infecting devices. The danger is mostly in what ads and redirects lead to: fake “virus found” alerts, fake players, notification-spam prompts and downloads.

These are user reports and an automated scanner’s summary, so treat them as warning signs, not a lab finding.

Most of what Manganato hosts is unlicensed. TorrentFreak reported in 2022 that Shueisha and VIZ Media were targeting the site, and the network has had to change domains since. Laws on reading unlicensed content differ by country, and publishers mostly pursue the sites, not the readers, but that’s no guarantee. Read official releases if you want to be clearly within the law.

Is Manganato Down? Why It Doesn’t Work

Common reasons include domain changes and mirror switches, blocked domains, ISP or country blocks, and heavy traffic. If your old bookmark fails:

  • Don’t follow “new link” posts from strangers.
  • Be wary of search results and ads that offer a “working” Manganato address.
  • Try a legal source for the series you want.

Does Manganato Have an App?

We found no official Manganato app from the site. Apps and websites that use the name, including listings in app stores, aren’t confirmed to be run by the site, so check the developer before you install anything. Android users should be especially careful with APK files from outside Google Play. See our guides on Android vs iPhone security and software updates.

How to Use Manganato More Safely

  1. Use a trusted ad blocker such as uBlock Origin or AdGuard, and keep your browser and system updated.
  2. Use a separate browser profile with no saved passwords or payment cards.
  3. Never click “Allow notifications,” “Verify you are human” or “Update your player” prompts.
  4. Don’t install apps, extensions or “codec” downloads the site offers.
  5. Close any new tab that opens on its own, and don’t enter any personal data.
  6. Don’t reuse a password from another account. A password manager helps.
  7. Type the address yourself or use a bookmark from a source you trust.

What to Do If You Clicked a Pop-Up

  • Close the tab. Don’t click “OK” or “Allow” on any message.
  • Open your browser’s site settings and remove notification permissions you didn’t intend to grant.
  • Check your extensions and installed apps, and remove anything you don’t recognize.
  • Run a security scan with your device’s built-in tools or a reputable antivirus.
  • If you typed a password or card number, change that password and contact your bank. Our guide to financial data security explains what to do.
